Branching patterns of Delesseria decipiens

    Hanging from a rock in the low intertidal, Delesseria decipiens doesn't always look like much, a clump of dark red oozing algae when removed from the water. Put it back in the water, though, and this beautiful alga blooms as it unfurls its intricately branched blades into a feathery fan of a brilliant red alga (Division Rhodophyta). Take a step closer and explore the world of Delesseria to understand what makes this alga a unique member of the algae of the Monterey Bay.
