As a R&D machinist at MBARI, Mark’s responsibilities are to ensure the uninterrupted flow of engineered parts to meet MBARI’S prototype and production requirements, while also reinforcing continuous improvement initiatives.

The R&D Machinist is responsible for following assigned engineering/project directives to complete work orders in a timely, efficient, and safe manner. At times this requires the Machinist to stop and work on emergency work, or one off projects, bought into the shop by the ship’s crew of the Rachel Carson and Western Flyer.

Mark also works in collaboration with MBARI engineers to ensure the quantity and quality of the workflow in support of project requirements.

Mark’s duties include, but are not limited to, 3D printing, sheet metal modifying and bending, Complete R&D prototype design, drawings, machining, etc. He consistently provides quality work through monitoring and measuring, and fully mastering manual mill-lathes and the CNC Vertical Mill and CNC Lathe.
