Quality data is of paramount importance for accurately interpreting our ocean environment. MBARI scientists and engineers have authored many applications to manage the vast quantities of data collected in the pursuit of understanding our ocean. We have invested heavily in developing software to meet, not only our needs, but that of the oceanographic community. Oceanographic Decision Support System

The Video Annotation and Reference System (VARS) is a software interface and database system that provides tools for describing, cataloging, retrieving, and viewing the visual, descriptive, and quantitative data associated with MBARI’s deep-sea video archives.
