I am currently serving as the group lead for the Platforms Engineering Group in MBARI's R&D Division. Platforms Engineering is a muliti-disciplinary group dedicated to designing state of the art oceanographic observing platforms, including ROVs, AUVs, Moorings, Cabled Observatories and Drifters. I also spent several years in MBARI's Support Engineering Group extending the capabilities of our many deployed assets.

My educational background is in electrical engineering and computer science with a minor in Japanese. I came to MBARI from the the consumer electronics
industry, designing television and internet convergence products, as well as manufacturing systems and design tools. As an undergraduate, I worked for a branch of the Navy devoted to assessing the Navy's environmental impact, writing software and assisting in water-quality studies. I also worked as a technician for a small company that manufactures oceanographic instrumentation.

My professional interests include sensor networks, systems engineering, and ocean science. I also enjoy reading about physics, quantum computing, nano-technology, artificial intelligence and mathematics.
