It is important to note that the taxonomy especially on a species and genera level has some degree of uncertainty and could change around a little in the future.

           Choreonematoideae- no secondary pit-connections or cell fusions

           Lithophylloideae- cell fusions rare

           Mastophoroideae- secondary pit-connections rare

           Melobesioideae- tetrasporangial conceptacles multiporate

 

           (These have also been proposed, but contain problems.)
