In Monterey Bay, epilithic (growing on rocks), epiphytic (growing on another plant), and epizooic (growing on another animal) Polysiphonia are found, as well as Polysiphonia growing on artificial substrates. The following are examples of each case.

epiphytes tunicate with polysiphonia

At left, epiphytic Polysiphonia found at Monterey Harbor Marina, growing on the red algae Prionitis lanceolata.

To the right, epizooic Polysiphonia found at Monterey Harbor Marina, growing on a solitary Ascidean (tunicate).
