Reaching upwards
from the rocky floor, the giant kelp canopy shadows the wondrous forest
below. Giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera), a brown alga,
is the Redwood of the ocean. It is a magnificent giant that plays
a key role in the ecology of the kelp forest. The different regions
of the kelp play host to a wide variety of fish and invertebrates. This
underwater forest is like no other forest you have ever seen.
