1997 MBARI Ocean-bottom Seismometer Deployments
Goals
- Develop and field test new instrumentation deployed by ROV
- Accurate locations of modern seismicity along San Gregorio and Monterey Bay Fault Zones
- Determine focal mechanisms for earthquakes for each fault segment
- Correlate modern seismicity with geological structures in Monterey Bay
Goals of 1997 Deployment
- Deploy broadband sensor package with extended battery pack (MOISE project)
- Extended deployment of corehole seismometer with L-CHEAPO data logger
- Initial deployment of seismonument with LP-1 data logger
- Seafloor array closely spaced to facilitate instrument comparisons
- Many different types of instruments with different response characteristics
- Few instruments were deployed for the entire three-month period
