This presentation will provide a glimpse from Chuck House, Hewlett Packard veteran, on the spirit of innovation that was fostered at HP as well as insights into the ways of MBARI’s founder David Packard.The intention of the talk is to help re-invigorate the Packard vision as MBARI is updating its strategic plan.
Chuck House is co-author of "The HP Phenomenon: Innovation and Business Transformation" and executive director of Media X, Stanford University's Industry Affiliate research program on innovation, media and technology.
Previously, Chuck was the director of Intel Corporation’s Virtual Collaboratory, Executive Vice President R&D at Dialogic, President of Spectron Microsystems, Senior Vice President at Veritas Software and Informix Software after 29 years at Hewlett-Packard, where he held a wide variety of roles at a number of divisions and groups. An IEEE Fellow for Logic Analysis technology, he was President of Association for Computing Machinery, the world’s largest Computer Science society, and is an ACM Fellow. He holds HP's only Medal of Defiance, awarded by David Packard for "extraordinary contempt and defiance beyond the normal call of engineering duty". Other awards include Engineer of the Year, Smithsonian Wizard of Computing, Top 50 inventions of the 20th century, CNN top 25 inventions of the past 25 years, and Intrapreneuring Honor Roll.
