The Green Flash over Monterey Bay
Wednesday - September 30, 2009
Pacific Forum — 3:00 p.m.
Do you think the Green Flash is something that only happens in movies (“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”), Jules Verne novels (“Le Rayon Vert”) or if it does occur, it is in exotic polar or tropical locations? Well, think again. The Green Flash is alive and well on the Central Coast! Come see and hear Green Flash “fanatic” Dr. Guest describe (1) what a Green Flash is, (2) the different types of Green Flashes, (3) the atmospheric conditions that produce it, (4) the physics (and physiology) responsible for this phenomenon and (5) how to observe and photograph the Green Flash. This presentation will show many photographs of the Green Flash including the first public release of several photographs by Dr. Guest.
