The Heritage of Pebble Beach

Wednesday – January 24, 2007
Pacific Forum – 3:00 p.m.

Pebble Beach Company historian Neal Hotelling, author of the award-winning Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official History (Sleeping Bear Press, 1999), will offer a program titled “The Heritage of Pebble Beach.”

Pebble Beach is known around the world as a top-ranked golf resort, but its heritage is so much more. From scenic beauty and dog shows, to horse racing and visiting dignitaries, Pebble Beach has opened the doors of the Monterey Peninsula to the world for over a century and traces its roots to the opening of Hotel Del Monte in 1880 by “The Big Four” – Crocker, Hopkins, Huntington and Stanford.

The presentation will provide a brief background on Pebble Beach Company and the Lagorio Archives and feature historic images from the collection, many of which are featured in the new fine art book, “Pebble Beach Heritage Collection” by Neal Hotelling and Matthew Vree (Pebble Beach Company, 2006).
