The primary task of this position is to manage the processing of the SOCCOM (Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observation and Modeling Program) profiling float data. Duties include computing biogeochemical data from raw sensor output, performing data quality checks (QC) and corrections where necessary, preparation and checking of netCDF files for transfer to the Argo data system, and maintenance of the SOCCOMViz data visualization system. The incumbent will have regular interaction with scientists, postdocs, graduate students, and engineers on the SOCCOM team to assess data quality and processing.
Bachelor degree in a scientific discipline is required. M.S. in Marine Sciences desirable. Solid experience with scientific Matlab programming (possibly Python) and manipulating netCDF and ASCII data files is required. Preparation of documents summarizing various data processing steps and annual technical reports a requirement. Familiarity with ocean biogeochemistry, and ocean carbon physical chemistry, and biogeochemical sensors is a plus for data QC. Ability to construct graphical user interfaces for QC software is also a plus. International travel to Argo Data Management Team meetings and SOCCOM meetings is a requirement. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people is required. May be required to go to sea for specific periods.
