In 2006, another workshop will be held to report the results of the prototype tests on the use of MOOS technology for MARS, a discussion of lessons learned, as well as a general follow-on discussion of the feasibility of a uniform software infrastructure for ocean observing systems.
The purpose of this workshop will be to foster a better understanding of the problems, the applicable technology, and what is known, with the goal of defining a more coherent direction for efforts in this area. A report describing the proceedings of the workshop, as well as recommendations on how to proceed in further efforts, will be created and available in hard copy and on the web.
Please see the NSF proposal for further information.
