Research Assistant (Part-Time, Temporary up to 1 year)

Working in support of an externally funded project, this position provides lab assistance in the Bioluminescence Lab. Duties include: washing dishes, creating media, and autoclaving waste. The incumbent will autoclave and keep sterile essential lab supplies and provide assistance with ordering of reagents and supplies. In addition, the Research Assistant helps with the physical organization of the lab. This person will assist with storage and organization of frozen and preserved samples, and help maintain sample database. Also, assist in preparations for expeditions.

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent plus minimum one year experience working in a scientific setting is required. Must be able to pay attention to detail and possess excellent organizational skills. Must be able to handle hazardous chemicals in a safe manner. Basic computer skills are required. Scripting or databases knowledge desired. Experience in molecular biology and using sterile methods is desired. Must be able to work with diverse groups of people. May be required to go to sea for specified periods of time.
