Two-year position funded by the NSF CMORE program
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of Microbial Oceanography with an emphasis on marine photosynthesis and energy cycles in the ocean. This position is funded for two years by the National Science Foundation (NSF) CMORE Program.
Reporting to Senior Research Engineer Dr. Zbigniew Kolber, the selected candidate’s research will focus on mechanisms of photosynthesis in marine phototrophs (eukaryotic phytoplankton, cyanobacteria, and anoxygenic aerobic photosynthetic bacteria), their interactions with heterotrophic communities in the upper ocean, and their responses to environmental changes in temperature, upper ocean pH, and nutrients supply.
Ph.D in Biophysics, or related subject, is required. Background in biophysics of photosynthetic electron transport, familiarity with fluorescence techniques to measure photosynthesis, and experience in growing phytoplankton cultures is preferred. Must be able to work well with diverse groups of people and must be able to go to sea for specified periods.
Interested individuals should submit the following:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Statement of research experience
- Three letters of reference
