- 2004 MBARI Sensors Workshop—Discussion on the requirements and standards for the instrument network infrastructure for ocean observing systems planned for the U.S Ocean Observatories Initiative; co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Ocean Research Interactive Observatory Networks (ORION)
- 2002 Arctic Instrumentation Workshop—Forum intended to promote the development of instrumentation for Arctic Ocean exploration including technology for accessing the water column and seafloor
- 2008 Ocean Observing Systems Interoperability Planning—Discussion on the issue of marine vocabularies within the context of an ocean observing system
- 2006 Sensor Metadata Interoperability Workshop—Symposium held to establish a consensus on a content standard, or some other interoperable approach, for representing sensor metadata
- 2005 Advancing Domain Vocabularies—Workshop designed to map domain vocabularies, creating data which enables users to discover new terms which are related to a given term
- 2000 MOOS Data Management Workshop—Discussion on the development of an institutional plan for the MBARI Ocean Observing System including technological and science use issues
- 1999 MOOS Workshop—Discussion on a rationale and plan for the MBARI to undertake a major new development effort to build a prototype of an ocean observation system
