MBARI scientists present papers and posters
at Deep Sea Biology Symposium

This week, several MBARI biologists are presenting research papers and posters at the 9th Deep Sea Biology Symposium in Galway, Ireland. Descriptions of MBARI's deep-sea studies in Monterey Bay range from the microscopic—estimates of meiofaunal abundance with depth—to the macroscopic—first observations of the effects of carbon dioxide on deep-sea organisms. Researchers studying the physiology of cold-seep clams (left) are reporting new insight into how these clams receive energy from their symbiotic bacteria.
