PrasinoSite is a community resource for learning and sharing information on algae within the class Prasinophyceae. The Prasinophyceae are important because they are widespread in marine environments and ancient within the green lineage, which gave rise to higher plants. These photosynthetic unicellular protists vary dramatically in morphology and behavior, but from an evolutionary perspective result from a primary endosymbiosis event.
