Slender Sea Pens
Funiculina sp.

This sea pen is prolific at the MARS observatory site. Sea pens can produce brilliant bioluminescent displays when disturbed. Sea pens are colonies of polyps which can produce waves of light that flash up and down the length of the colony. Height to about 12 inches. Passively feeds on zooplankton and small particles (marine snow) raining down from above or those carried along the bottom by currents.
