Scientific monitoring systems or experiments are essential for testing the performance of MARS infrastructure. We encourage ocean scientists and engineers to consider deploying instruments on the MARS prototype ocean observatory. The observatory facilities will allow researchers to develop the tools and protocols necessary to take advantage of a sea floor power supply, real-time data, and experiment control. The MARS system is designed so that tools and protocals developed here will be readily transferable to other ocean observatories as they come on line.
As the MARS observatory nears completion, we will be implementing procedures to assist researchers who wish to put instruments on the network. Specifically, we will provide step-by-step instructions for getting an experiment on MARS, as well as information detailing how to interact with your experiment once it has been deployed.
Examples of experiments that have been proposed for deployment on MARS are described on this web site (see list at left).
