MARS
Bathymetry

Below are examples of bathymetry from MBARI's seafloor mapping program, which show multiple views of Smooth Ridge and the surrounding area. The MARS region is defined as -122.37 to -121.78˚ W   36.5 to 36.9˚N. The MARS node will be located on Smooth Ridge. Click on images for larger views.

MARS_Topo25_UTM_slope.jpg (15711 bytes) The entire region is gridded in UTM with 25 m cells using all relevant multibeam bathymetry.
MARS_TopoSndg25_UTM_slope.jpg (15920 bytes) The same as above except that conventional sounding from NOS have been incorporated, following the use of smooth 2D spline interpolation to fill in data gaps less than 1 km wide.
MARS_Topo5A_UTM_slope.jpg (17353 bytes) The region has been divided into the following four slightly overlapping regions and gridded to 5 m cells using multibeam bathymetry.
MARS_Topo5B_UTM_slope.jpg (11881 bytes) See above.
MARS_Topo5C_UTM_slope.jpg (15244 bytes) See above.
MARS_Topo5D_UTM_slope.jpg (11236 bytes) See above.

Additional data detailing this area has been published by the U.S. Geological Survey using acoustic swath mapping. Please see http://geopubs.wr.usgs.gov/map-mf/mf2345/ for results from an unrelated field study.
