How to connect to MARS
Ocean scientists and engineers are encouraged to deploy instruments on the MARS ocean observatory.
The observatory facilities allow researchers to develop the tools and protocols necessary to take advantage of a sea floor power supply, real-time data, and experiment control. The MARS system is designed so that tools and protocols developed at MBARI will be readily transferable to other ocean observatories as they come on line.
Now that the MARS observatory is operational, we are implementing procedures to assist researchers who wish to put instruments on the network. Specifically, we will provide step-by-step instructions for getting an experiment on MARS, as well as information detailing how to interact with your experiment once it has been deployed.
Examples of experiments that have been proposed for deployment on MARS are described on this web site (see MARS science experiments at left).
