Four, small swallow or swift-type birds appeared around the ship today as we drifted at station #6. The birds were possibly blown off-course by winds and are finding temporary refuge on the ship.

Small pieces of Sargassum drifted past the ship. A brown alga, Sargassum has distinctive air-filled floats that look like tiny grapes that help it stay buoyant in the water. Feathery hydroids, relatives of corals, are attached.
