Marine debris
Today a tiny Sargassum fish was collected in our samples, but we returned it to the ocean. These rare fish are endemic to the Sargasso Sea.
Like most of the macrofauna we’ve seen in our samples, the Sargassum fish is perfectly camouflaged for hiding in the fronds of its seaweed habitat.
Even in the remote Sargasso Sea, we’ve encountered marine debris like this metal drum floating in the surface waters.
Lone Ranger crew retrieve a derelict buoy found drifting past the ship.
