Southern Ocean Iron (SOFeX) Cruise

Leg 1:  The RV Revelle from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) will go first adding iron and a tracer to two patches. Mapping and samples are some of the tasks during this leg.

Leg 2: The RV Melville (also SIO) will sail several weeks later to arrive just as the patches are formed. Additional measurements and instrument collections will take place.

Leg 3: The USCGC Polar Star will then arrive to assess how much carbon was removed from the iron fertilized patches.
