May 29th, 2003; Leg 7, Day #7

We expected the worst as we rounded Point Conception as 2030 knot winds and 2.54 meter seas had been forecast but instead the winds were moderate and the seas 12 meters. Surface waters did cool, from 16 C to 13 C, and to the west of Port San Luis, surface waters also freshened to S=32.7. Three CTD stations were completed along the Central California coast and, with the good weather, we were able to carry out diving operations this morning. Iron concentrations have remained low.

The ship's crew has been especially supportive of our scientific efforts on this leg, and the successful data collection efforts are a tribute to their professionalism.
