Papa`u Survey
A small survey was conducted on Papau Seamount, a small hill located on the southwest edge of the Hilina landslide on Kilauea. In previous bathymetry (Moore and Chadwick, 1995), Papa`u Seamount was simply a rounded hill, leading to possible origins ranging from volcanic to tectonic. The new data show that this hill is along a shear zone on the southwest margin of the Hilina Slump (Clague et al., 1998; Morgan et al., submitted).
