Sea lions on MBARI's M0 mooring |

Since 1989, MBARI has maintained several offshore monitoring buoys in Monterey Bay. These have provided unique long-term data about physical, chemical, and biological conditions in the bay. The M0 mooring, shown here, was a nearshore mooring that was deployed from 2003 to 2007, about three miles offshore of the Pajaro River. The float on the M0 mooring was particularly popular as a haul-out spot for juvenile sea lions. Photo: Kim Fulton-Bennett © 2004 MBARI
