---Thu Dec 07 16:00:43 PST 2000--- 07Dec2000 brian Eqpac log created ---Fri Dec 08 10:58:28 PST 2000--- 21 Oct 2000 brian (work by kemi) NOTE: Argos is now returning specprr data from 1000 and 1200 hours instead of 1200 and 1230 used during the previous deployments. THis is to make the data useful for MODIS matchups. at EP1: EP recovered on deck at 0715 local (1715GMT). Reset All on new EP1 at 1310 local (2225GMT day 295). EP1 in water at 1310 local (2310GMT) Anchor at 1547 local on 21 Oct (0147GMT day 296). Instruments deployed: SatA 118 SatB 161 PRR-600 19606 0m WS3 015 0m 37-SM(microcat) 0679 0m HS2 2990201 0m isus EP1 20m WS3 not deployed Details: - Microcat 0678 was dead. Deployed 0679 instead but didn't have time to do the TBT cups on microcat. Used TBT sleeves instead and secured them with cable ties. - HS2 2000930 did not wake up before the deployment so I swapped it out with 2990201. - The ships readar tracked the buoy at 4.8 knots following the anchor drop. - The recovered PRR-600 had both paddles bent towards the cener of the PRR - All recoverd sensors were fouled with slime. - The recovered elevator cage bracket in the buoy bridle (now deployed at EP2) has severe corrosion problems and will need grinding and rewelding. Half the battery tubes will need the same. ---Fri Dec 08 11:05:30 PST 2000--- 30 Oct 2000 brian (work by kemi) at EP2: Reset all 1330 local (30 Oct 2000) buoy in water 1347 local anchor dropped at 1552 local Instruments deployed: Prr-620 19608 SatA 119 SatB 162 Prr-600 19614 0m WS3 220 0m 37-SM 0765 0m HS2 not deloyed 0m isus EP2 (self-contained) 20m WS3 440 Details: - Did not get new driver uploaded for isus - Oasis clock was off by 10min. Reset clock using the ships GMT clock. - MUST SWAP THIS OASIS CAN ON THE NEXT CRUISE!! - Isus GMT was off by ~10 min. - The microcat deployed was the one recovered from EP1 just a few days earlier. The batteries were replaced and the data downloaded before redeployment. - Had a similar (but not as bad) corrosion problem to EP1. ---Fri Dec 08 11:21:02 PST 2000--- 07 Dec 2000 brian Meeting with Kent Headley, Pete Strutton, Mike Kelley and Brian Schlining regarding recent eqpac deployment. Details: EP1 - Prr600 19606 has a bad external voltage connector. We're not receiving data from the 20m wetstar on EP1. - Need shorter housing for ISUS to help it fit into cage. - HS2 to be deployed was bad, talk to hobilabs - Corrosion problems with cage. - Paddles on the recovered PRR600 were bent. EP2 - Problems with HS2 - Didn't get new code uploaded for ISUS - Oasis can seems to be set to the wrong time. It's taking the 'dark' (i.e Midnight) sample at 5 pm local. In this case, the specprr will sample from 11pm-11am local. We're not getting noon data. To do: 1) Add a ground fault. This will need to be coordinated through PMEL channels. 2) The cables for the moorings need to be made longer (not shorter) 3) ALWAYS use new cables 4) Standardize the CO2 equilabrator tube. 5) Put one of the batterey tubes topside. ---Fri Dec 15 15:23:05 PST 2000--- 07 Dec 2000 brian EP1: The Shutter on the 20m PRR-600 failed as is stuck in the closed position. ---Thu Feb 15 14:00:04 PST 2001--- 15 Feb 2001 brian SPMR casts: Discovered a bug in Prosoft5.2. Most product (Lwn, K, par) and some Binned files had the longitudes listed as 0. They've all been corrected as of today. ---Mon Apr 02 14:47:42 PDT 2001--- 02 Apr 2001 brian At EP1: Argos antenna seems to have failed. last argos transmission was on 24 Mar 2001. ---Fri Apr 06 14:02:29 PDT 2001--- 06-Apr-2001 stpe email to all concerned with May-June maintenance cruise We have cables and instruments, and Kent is testing a can. I wanted to go through a few things. EP1 --- * ARGOS messages ceased a week or so ago. Will definitely need to swap this can. * Will swap the microcat, 2 x OCR-100s and 0m wetstar fluorometer during buoy visit. Still deciding on best course of action for HS2. * 20m PRR600 has a jammed shutter and I am talking with PMEL re the best way to swap this instrument. Erich can you please confirm that we have diver serviceable connectors on this instrument. The 20m wetstar was not deployed with this instrument, so if the PRR is swapped we should try to deploy a wetstar with it. * CO2 system has never worked. Need to decide the best course of action - test and maybe swap cable or swap entire can, including half of the air intake block. * ISUS was deployed with no cable to OASIS, in stand-alone mode. Luke please advise Mike and Victor on what you want done with this instrument. EP2 --- * ARGOS messages still being received but see comment below. * Time offset problem with this OASIS can. Could probably be checked and fixed, but given the uncertantities with ARGOS, it would be best to swap the can. * HS2 was not deployed at all here - still deciding on best course of action. * Will swap the microcat, 2 x OCR-100s and 0m wetstar fluorometer during buoy visit. * CO2 system not working. Need to decide the best course of action - test and maybe swap cable or swap entire can, including half of the air intake block. * ISUS was deployed with cable to OASIS, but in stand-alone mode. The instrument is not talking to OASIS because Mike had trouble uploading the driver at deployment. Luke please advise Mike and Victor on what you want done with this instrument. Further to the ARGOS problems noted above, it appears that the ARGOS battery voltage on both cans took a significant dive in March - early march for ep2 and late march for ep1. If anyone has any comments on this please speak up. Next week we should work on getting a second complete set of test cables made. Also in the next week or so it would be good for Mike B and Victor will acquaint themselves with the test can(s) over in Bldg B. ---Wed Apr 11 08:04:32 PDT 2001--- 11apr2001 victor Start -- quality control of ep1 and ep2 moorings. Ep1 looks good, ep2 still down. ---Mon Apr 23 08:37:18 PDT 2001--- 23Apr2001 victor At EP1: Still down, no change from before. At EP2: Possible problems. No data transfer since April 17 from ARGOS. No data transfer from OASIS since April 15. Not clear, need to consult with either Pete or Brian. ---Sat Sep 15 19:13:10 PDT 2001--- Victor Kuwahara and Mike Burczynski at ep1, 7-Jun-2001 Everything went well. We replaced OASIS, the surface instruments, and the 20m PRR/shutter and Wetstar, that went relatively easy. The pco2 equilibrator looked good, we left it alone. Tower PRR was good, we left it alone. We pulled ISUS. Some other note worthy items. We replaced the monster cable. There was a fishing hook hole in the middle of it, water was leaking out when we got it on deck, and one of the pigtails at 20m was sliced, exposing the internal conductors. Routing it up the doughnut was not all that hard. Also, we discovered that one of the battery cables (at one of the battery packs) did not have a locking sleeve on it and that the plug was coming off. When I pulled the cable off, I discovered water had flooded the connector/pins and one of the pins on the cable had corroded away and was lodged in the battery bulkhead. After consulting with Brian, we put a locking sleeve onto the battery cable and attached it back on to the battery. There was not much we could do with the limited time that we had. It looks like its been like that for a while. Replaced the pco2 can. I've also checked the can & cable we pulled off. Using the program "co2tst.exe" we have verified that it is operating properly (Pete did give us an old style bulkhead test cable). We think the cable we pulled is definetly bad, the pinouts do not correspond to my notes or the test cable. After the mooring was deployed we successfully received ARGOS data here on the ship. The recovered EP1 OASIS clock is 2 minutes behind the ship's GMT time (OASIS=05:12:01 2001/6/7 & GMT=05:14:23 6/7/01). OASIS went in at 6/7 around 00:00 hrs. I did load the shutter & HS2 drivers. PRR looked good and clean. I tried Zorba's suggestion regarding ARGOS, but it never came back to life (we did reattach the Argos antenna should a miracle happen).
